Meet the 2019 RFTG Book Scholarship Recipient!

We are pleased to announce that Kynnidi Caffey has been selected as this year’s winner for the highly competitive Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship. We received several outstanding applications and equally exceptional recommendations making the selection process very competitive this year.  Her devotion to serving others and strong commitment to improving the lives of her community as she pursues her career in nursing is admirable. Additionally, her academic excellence and involvement in her school, local community, and academic programs, such as Youth United Way and the Senior Buddy Program, made her stand out among the many fierce candidates.

Ms. Caffey will pursue a degree in Nursing at Prairie View A&M University beginning this Fall. She describes her future goals as:

“I will continue to contribute to my community and beyond while still ensuring my personal success. After college, I plan to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I will use my career to provide healthcare and medical services to the uninsured and disadvantaged. I will contribute to communities by being a voice for the youth and giving attention to impoverished neighborhoods. I feel that it is necessary to focus on youth who have limited or no access to adequate healthcare, academic resources, and meaningful activities outside of school.”

The Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship recognizes academic and benevolent achievement among young women of color, and supports continued success through the first year of college. Therefore, we believe Ms. Caffey embodies the values of the scholarship and will receive $1,000 towards achieving her academic goals.
