Reach for the Gold Scholarship
As the cost of attending college increases, financial hardship often serves as a barrier to gaining a college degree. The cost of tuition, room and board, and books can be overwhelming for college-bound students, particularly first-generation college students.
For over ten years the Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship has recognized academic and benevolent achievement among young women of color, and supported continued success through the first year of college. The Alumnae Association of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated awards one scholarship recipient annually.
The Reach for the Gold Book Scholarships targets a woman of color who is a college-bound senior. The scholarship is an award of $1,000 and is applied to the high costs of college textbooks in the first year of college. Please read the eligibility criteria below.
The Alumnae Association is proud to announce the 2011 winner of the Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship, Ms. Katherine Nasol, of San Jose, CA. Ms. Nasol is a public policy major at Stanford University where, in addition to her academic pursuit, she dedicates her time to several service-focused projects including the Pagkabata Project, which she co-founded to eradicate child trafficking. As a student at Notre Dame High School, Ms. Nasol excelled academically with various Advanced Placement courses, an impressive Grade Point Average, and high scores on her SAT and ACT tests. In addition to her academic accolades, Ms. Nasol has shown true benevolence with her dedication to her community. She has volunteered at various organizations including the Santa Clara Youth Task Force and Girls For A Change. Her ultimate career goal is to lead an NGO working towards social justice/women’s empowerment that will give her the skills and leadership needed to work with the United Nations or UNICEF.
