Congratulations to the 2007 winners of the Reach for the Gold Scholarship!

Financial hardship often serves as a barrier to gaining a college degree. A majority of our membership are first generation college students who have earned their college degree with the assistance of financial aid, a part- or full-time job, family support, and various scholarships and grants. The cost of tuition, room and board, and books can be overwhelming for college-bound students, particularly first-generation college students. One of the ways Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has chosen to assist in alleviating some of the financial burden associated with a college education is through the Reach for the Gold Book Scholarships.
There are two Reach for the Gold Book Scholarships. The first is the Academic Book Scholarship which is awarded to a candidate demonstrating academic excellence. The second is the Benevolence Book Scholarship which is awarded to a candidate demonstrating commitment and service to their community.
The Reach for the Gold Book Scholarships targets two women of color that are college-bound minority high school seniors. Each book scholarship is an award of $500 and is applied to the high costs of college textbooks in the first year of college. The award disbursement is as follows:
-
The first disbursement of $250 is awarded once proof of enrollment at an accredited college/university is submitted to Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
-
The second disbursement of $250 is awarded the following semester if the student has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and upon receipt of a Renewal Request Letter. The Renewal Request Letter must be submitted by the award recipient and must summarize their academic performance and/or community involvement during your first semester of college. This letter must be accompanied with an official transcript indicating your first semester GPA.
