NEW YORK, New York... August 12, 2008. Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (OPBSI) is proud to announce the return of their National Step Team - Soul Steppin’ Divas as they competed at LatinosStep's 10th Annual Step Competition, on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Herbert H Lehman College.

After a one year hiatus in the competition realm, the Soul Steppin’ Divas returned to the scene with only one mission, and that is to come back exactly where they left off. The Divas brought back eight of their original steppers along with their current nine member team, showcased a special ‘Conga’ tribute, erected a three-woman totem pole, and presented their signature Omega beat.

As a result, the Soul Steppin’ Divas earned the highest score in the sorority category, earned the highest score from the Professional judges, and produced the 2nd highest team score overall, from both fraternity/sorority stepteams by fellow Greek judges, however, due to timing, the Divas incurred major deductions which ultimately placed them in 2nd place for sororities.

Jessica “Remo” Morales, step mistress, founder and choreographer, states, "Our goal in this competition was to remember the ‘roots’ of why we step. My team contributed 10 years of hard work to LatinosStep events, and we wanted people to remember us. In its [LatinosStep] 10th year, we hope we brought back the history of why the competition was formed. We are excited that the audience enjoyed our show and are happy to stand at the forefront of Latino stepping.”

After leaving LatinosStep at their peak (2003, 2004, and 2005) as champions, the Soul Steppin’ Divas went off to win 2006 StepCorrect qualifier champions and then the following year became the first ever Latino/a team to win StepCorrect National Championship 2007.

Respectively, OPBSI would like to congratulate all organizations who participated in this year’s LatinosStep Competition and those who placed.
