Life Skills for the Latino Population
PATERSON, New Jersey… February 1, 2008. The Alpha Zeta Alumnae Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will be collaborating with Julio Tavarez, Paterson 5th Ward Councilman candidate, on an educational workshop entitled “Not only living life, but being life”. The workshop will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Paterson Public Library in Patterson, NJ. The workshop will connect ways on how one can better manage their lives —personally, professionally, politically, etc. Mr. Tavarez is a prominent figure in the Paterson community and is the creator and moderator of PatersonOnline.NET; a forum to keep Patersonians informed of local events as well as getting them more familiar with internet technology and communication. With his long standing involvement in the city of Paterson, Julio thrives to improve the quality of life in Paterson by addressing problems such as drug use, gang involvement, and poverty on its streets. In his seminar, Julio will be sharing seven principles by which to live a happier, more in control life. He will be modeling his session on the book “The 7 Effects of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covoy. This program is especially relevant during our nation’s electoral time, as Julio will talk to the US Latina/o on how one can apply these tips to daily life, including how to become more politically inclined. Alpha Zeta New Jersey Alumnae Chapter would like to invite all community members attend this event. It will be held at 10 am in the Paterson Public Library. Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is a Latina-oriented sorority founded on March 15, 1989, at the University at Albany, State University of New York. Seventeen women of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds came together to defy the injustices suffered by women, particularly women of color, in the academic, professional and political arenas. The purpose of OPBSI is to serve and educate people of diverse backgrounds through sisterhood, leadership, and guidance. As positive role models, we promote unity of all cultures, focus on the empowerment of our gender and raise the standards of excellence in our academic, social, and personal endeavors.
