OPBSI raises over $8,000
AIDS Walk New YorkMay 21, 2007…Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. (OPBSI) is proud to announce that after joining forces with AIDS Walk New York, a national organization benefiting the Gay Men's Health Crisis and other organizations affiliated with the relief, education and eradication of the AIDS epidemic, they have surpassed their fundraising goal to raise over $8,000 dollars. On Sunday, May 20, 2007, OPBSI joined thousands of participants nationwide as they walked through Central Park to fundraise for AIDS AWARENESS. Surrounded by supporters along the way, this was an event that culminated months of active fundraising efforts throughout the country. Our commitment to AIDS Walk New York began in 2000, with our Lambda Chapter at Brooklyn College. Since 2006, it has been spearheaded by the National Board of Directors with the assistance of our Metro City Chapters. We have increased our donations, participants, and most importantly awareness for this cause. We are proud to announce that we have successfully raised our highest donation thus far almost doubling what we raised last year, totaling $8,025.00+. "Every year we increase our goal and every year we meet or surpass it. This is the first year we almost doubled it! It is thrilling to know we were able to contribute to such a great cause through our efforts to promote awareness and fundraise. It is our hope that we continue to exceed our goal,” said Betty Diaz, Director of Community Service for OPBSI. As leaders in the community, we have a choice, we have a responsibility, but most importantly we have the privilege to ensure that the information and the resources available are for everyone. Every year we are proud to join the thousands of fundraisers in taking a stand for this cause. A stand that we hope one day will come to a final end, where we will find the cure of HIV/AIDS. If you would like to join our team next year or for more information on donating, please contact Betty Diaz at: CommunityService@OmegaPhiBeta.org. Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is a national, fully accredited Greek-lettered organization founded in 1989 at the University at Albany, State University of New York by seventeen women of diverse cultural backgrounds. While continuously working towards the mission of cultural awareness and community service, the organization also focuses on addressing the needs of the undergraduate and local communities where chapters are located.
