Since 1995, Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Alumnae Association has been supporting bright and benevolent women through the Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship as they pursue careers in medicine, the sciences, technology, education, non-profit management, arts, and more. The Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship recognizes academic and benevolent achievement among young women of color, and supports their continued success through the first year of college.

The Alumnae Association is pleased to announce that the 2018 Reach for the Gold Scholarship application is now available online. This year, in our continuous effort to support all women of color, especially in those communities where obtaining funds for higher education can be challenging, we encourage all eligible young women residing in the United States regardless of immigration status.

Alina Acevedo, our current Vice President of Alumnae Affairs was able to catch up with Cecilia Orduña, the 2017 recipient of the Reach for the Gold Scholarship, who is currently studying at Columbia University in New York City about her first year in college and what she has accomplished thus far.

“Freshman year at Columbia has been great. The scholarship has assisted me in obtaining textbooks and study materials for my classes. My favorite class that I took this year was University Writing, which is one of Columbia’s Core classes. I joined clubs including Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Student Organization of Latinxs and the staff of the Columbia Daily Spectator where I work as a Product Designer. Next year I am going to assist in welcoming the Class of 2022 as an Orientation Leader. The scholarship has made it possible for me to rent and purchase costly books that would have otherwise been highly inaccessible or inconvenient to use. I am deeply grateful for the financial assistance from Omega Phi Beta from the Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship.”

The scholarship application is now available on Omega Phi Beta’s National Website or via email inquiry via aa@omegaphibeta.org. Applications are due by June 1st, and the winner will be announced by July 16th, 2018 via our online media outlines.
