Chapter History

Our story begins with ONE,
Jennifer, KARA, a woman with vision
Traveled to Syracuse, NY, on a mission.

Jennifer Echavarria brought Omega Phi Beta to the Utica College campus in the spring of 2000 by pledging through Xi Chapter at Syracuse University. She was a solo but she was determined to see OPBSI blossom. Through programs and events she inspired many women around her. However it wasnt until the spring of 2002 that her vision to see her colony established came true.

Then THREE more followed her radiant light Nazeeya showed Utica their incredible might.

As the colony at Utica College grew and became Tau Chapter many surrounding colleges and universities began to take notice. Unable to resist the Beta call two pioneering little women from Hamilton College, line name Almineh, embarked on the same journey others before them had taken. They were successful in bringing OPBSI, the first National Sorority to Hamiltons historic campus.

So the story continues day in, and day out.
We are unconquered, unbroken, determined to stay
Untouchable women to this very day.

Chapter Cause: Child Welfare

Moved by the poverty in the greater Utica Area and the Mohawk Valley the sisters at Tau Chapter chose to dedicate a great deal of time to mentoring, inspiring, and helping children. It was clear that there were opportunities all around for the children to succeed if only they had the proper guidance from dedicated individuals. Working with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club, America Read and Writes among others the chapter is devoted to its cause.
