Chapter History

Dawn Brawley, Yadira Perez, Dorothy Rivera, and Marcy Lopez recognized the need for an organization at Cornell University that demonstrated a commitment to service, leadership, and equality of all women. They saw this and more in Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Despite the obstacles encountered, the first Ivy League colony within the sorority was established at Cornell University on May 28, 1999. They learned through their struggle that with perseverance, knowledge, valiance and heart anything could be accomplished.

Chapter Cause: Child Welfare

Nu Chapter’s cause of Child Welfare was established in Fall 1999 upon the principle that children are the future and their innocence and well-being should be preserved for that reason. Many children grow up in unthinkable conditions or situations. It is an obligation to nurture and guide them to a successful life. Nu Chapter has taken the forefront in educating, empowering, and enriching the children of Ithaca, NY through various efforts including their Crayon Carnival and involvement with Tompkins County Child Sexual Abuse Project. Nu Chapter is committed to Child Welfare and welcomes all that are willing to help the cause.
