Kappa Chapter
Est. 1998
Chapter History
The history of Kappa Chapter began with two determined women, Sandy O'Connor and Jenny Blanco, who saw the need for a professional and education-oriented organization at Hofstra University. Unfortunately, they were not able to found a chapter at Hofstra, and graduated then becoming sisters through the Alumnae Chapter of Omega Phi Beta. Through their determination and dedication to not only the sorority but to themselves in always wanting to fulfill their dream of having a recognized chapter at Hofstra University they would later meet five young Hofstra Students, all of various backgrounds and characteristics, who would then become the founding line of the chapter.
For a very young chapter, Kappa has made many accomplishments since it was established in the Fall of 1998. We have grown not only in numbers, but as an organization that is well known on campus for our ability to promote our sorority motto, “Sirviendo y Educando A Traves De Nuestras Diversidad.”
Chapter Cause: Lupus
Tracy Sanchez, a chartering sister of Kappa Chapter is plagued with this disease. Her line sisters had seen her struggle through the intake process and through that experience vowed to make Lupus their chapter philanthropy once they became sisters. Tracy's incredible strength and vigor inspired all of her line sisters and continues to inspire all chapter sisters, while teaching them about love, honor, and perseverance. Lupus affects thousands of women and as sisters of Omega Phi beta, Kappa's newfound duty is to educate the Hofstra community and the community at large. We have been able to use our membership in Omega Phi Beta as a platform of knowledge, discussion and compassion.
