Chapter History
Chapter/Colony of the Month: September 2008Congratulations to Eta Chapter for being awarded the Chapter of the Month for September 2008! During the first month back at school, they held a number of successful events. They hosted the first official back to school party, Radiant Return, while at the same time hosting the annual Radiant Retreat, in which about 20 sisters were in the Rochester area. They ended the month with their 4th Annual Beta Bowl, in which they were able to raise about $250 to benefit the YMCA, for a program they head called Project HYPE, which provides mentoring and tutoring services to children and families that need it.
In Spring of 1993, Marianela Gonzalez and Eileen Miranda, two students from SUNY College at Brockport began the search for an organization that was both distinct and focused on the issues that concerned them as Latinas. The expansion of Omega Phi Beta to SUNY Oswego had a tremendous impact as it being one of very few latina-oriented sororities’ in upstate New York. The two women traveled to an informational at SUNY Oswego to meet the Sisters of Zeta Chapter, Cecila Parisi and Michele Adorno. In the fall of 1994, Marianela and Eileen began the process to bring the radiance to SUNY College at Brockport.
On December 17, 1994 Marianela and Eileen entered the BETA Light of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and immediately began work to establish the organization on their campus by providing services to both the local and college communities. After two long and challenging years, Marianela Gonzalez and Eileen Miranda were recognized as the chartering members of the Eta chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated at SUNY College at Brockport. Since then, the Everlasting Eta Chapter has crossed several women into the organization from surrounding academic institutions. The Everlasting Eta Chapter has grown to include both Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and the University of Rochester.
Since then, the Extraordinary, Everlasting, Eta Chapter has provided service to the community through various cultural, social, and educational programs and community services.
