Chapter History
Founded on Friday, December 11, 1993, through the Alpha chapter at the State University at Albany Campus, Epsilon Chapter of the Omega Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was long needed at the C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University. Over the years, the Latina population had increased tremendously and although there were several choices of organizations, none met the needs of these women.
With that in mind, four women, Stacie Gonzalez of Puerto Rican
descent, Annie Cohen of Puerto Rican and Jewish descent, Johanna Minguez of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent and Darlene Lopez of Dominican and Chilean descent pursued the goal of setting history at this chapter that now has flourished to be a predominant chapter of the organization.
Chapter Cause: Cancer Awareness
Having experienced the sadness and recognizing the dangers of cancer firsthand, Epsilon Chapter chose to adopt Cancer Awareness as their chapter cause. The decision was made after the death of Epsilon Chapter Soror Anjanette Cabrera's father. CW Post is also located in Long Island, which has one of the highest breast cancer results in the country. Another soror, Sonia Mangual-Villanueva, of our Beta chapter, was also diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Fortunately she overcame the disease through therapy and support. With all of these experiences Epsilon Chapter knew that Cancer was a cause that we should support. It is supported annually with a Cancer Awareness Banquet, co-sponsorship of a breast cancer Awareness Walk and hosting various other wrap-around events throughout the year.
