Chapter History

As of spring 2006, Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated started expanding to the Midwest where the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign received "Kekoa Alana", its first class of Omega Phi Beta sisters. We continue, now as sisters, serving and educating through our vast diversity to our campus community and the greater Chicagoland area by providing professional, beneficial, and social programs that range from political, business orientated, environmental, cultural, health focused, and educational issues. In addition, we strive to be positive role models who promote gender and cultural empowerment, while gaining recognition and increasing the number of promising interested women statewide.

Chapter Cause: Heart Disease Awareness and Prevention

The sisters of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have chosen our colony cause to be Heart Disease Awareness and Prevention. Heart Disease is the #1 killer of American women, which disproportionately affects women of color. Heart Disease occurs when the arteries leading to the heart become clogged, blocking the flow of blood to the body. Without adequate blood, the heart becomes starved of oxygen and vital nutrients it needs to work properly, causing heart attacks, strokes, other heart complications. Since Heart Disease is so common and often silent until it strikes, it is important to recognize the factors that put you at risk. Therefore we have committed ourselves to providing educational programs, different charities for Heart Disease research, and working with national organizations such as; The Heart Truth Campaign and The American Heart Association to help with this nationwide epidemic.
